Visit

Visit us

Visiting Blackie House Library and Museum is currently by appointment. Group tours can be arranged. We are also very happy to assist with research.

To arrange a visit, please email us at contact@blackiehouse.org or use the Contact Us form.

Consulting the collection

Our collection is open to individuals who wish to consult items relating to their interests and research. A wide range of visitors from all over the world, including academics, librarians, conservators and artists, come to Blackie House for research, information and inspiration.

Group visits

We welcome group visits. Visits usually last one or two hours and involve a talk by the Director, William Zachs, and a tour of the premises and the current exhibition. Talks and special ‘pop-up’ displays can be tailored to the interests of the group, or a choice can be made from some of our popular sessions, such as ‘The History of the Illustrated Book – in Ten Volumes’. A donation to the charity is normally requested.

Please note that we are unable to provide group visits during the winter months. Please contact us in the spring to enquire about available slots.

Visiting the exhibitions

Anyone is welcome to visit and view the current exhibition. Please contact us to arrange a time for your visit.

Please note that Blackie House Library and Museum is a shoe-free space. You will be requested to change into slippers provided.

Please also note that photography is not permitted without permission of the Director.

The venue is in an old Edinburgh tenement. Please contact us in advance if you have any special access needs.
